 Today we call them ganseys, but these sweaters are also known as guerseys or jerseys.  They were designed to be a warm, close fitting and hard-wearing garment, traditonally made out of wool. 

The Helm sweater has some variations.  Learn how to read a chart and do cables.

Materials -- any yarn that gives you 5 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch;   Vintage, Cascade 220, Amano Andes, Cascade 220 SW Merino, Woolstok, Merino 401, Ultra Alpaca. Needles - size 7 or gauge appropriate.  Stitch markers.
