A TASTE OF LACE; Sampler Knitting Revisited with Andrea Jurgrau

The focus of this 6 hour workshop is a small lace sampler that illustrated 4 different lace knitting styles; Shetland, Estonian, German and Orenburg. We will begin by learning a provisional cast-on. We will move on to each of the lace traditions, discussing the differences and similarities. We will work on the sampler together, practicing the techniques which include two different ways to make nupps. We will discuss how to turn the sampler into a scarf project, should participants choose. An assortment of lace charts will be shared, for working a traditional sampler or making bookmarks. Finally, we will culminate with a blocking demonstration, blocking the sampler and discussing best blocking practices. List special skills or knowledge students need to take this class:  Advanced knitting, basic lace knitting and chart reading skills are required. Comfort with small needles is a plus.
